Description

Tomás Bretón (1850 – 1923) was a Spanish composer and conductor. “Guzmán el bueno”, composed in 1875, is Bretón’s first opera; like his other operas, it was not received with much enthusiasm. This does not apply to the zarzuelas that Bretón composed, which were more successful.

The prelude to “Guzmán el bueno”, an opera about a famous nobleman with that name, a hero in Spain during the Middle Ages, has gained and kept some fame.
