Description
This work is dedicated to maestro Nicholas Goluses, with whom Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz studied at Eastman School of Music from 1995 until 1997. It was premiered by the composer on February 2006 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. It is based on an afro-Caribbean rhythm, the bolero.
It keeps a recognizable melody in the principal voice. Nevertheless, the accompaniment and secondary voices search for colorful solutions to standard harmonies. Soliloquio (Soliloquy), as the title suggests, is a very reflective and profound piece.
