Description
The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albeniz (1860 – 1909) strongly influenced the development of a Spanish “national” school of composition at the end of the 19th century. One of his best-known piano compositions is the suite “Espanola”, a collection of pieces inspired by different regions and musical cultures in Spain. “Castilla” (the 7th movement in this suite) is composed in the Seguidilla style, whose origins lie in a Castillian folk dance.
Often performed are the arrangements for guitar/guitar of all parts of the “Espanola” suite. An orchestral arrangement is also very popular.
