Description
MUSIC FOR ORCHESTRA, by the Czech-American composer Vaclav Nelhybel, is a monothematic musical composition built primarily upon the notes D, E, and F.
After a somber dirge-like opening, the music becomes agitated in character – driving impetuously onward with increasing frenzy and brilliance. Antiphonal exchanges and varied rhythmic patterns add to the expansion of what remains, essentially, an extreme economy of tonal material. A whirl-wind of orchestral colors punctuated by spasmodic pulsations – its perpetual motion pushes, unrelentingly, straight through to the very end.
