Description
This work is commissioned by the Diffwinds Festival in Differdange (Luxembourg) in 2018. The idea behind this work was to be a modern historical background for the steel giant ARBED (now Arcelor-Mittal), founded in Luxembourg. Especially in Differdingen until today where the so-called Gray bearers are built, they are finally exported and used all over the world.
The work consists of different parts:
-‘New Era’ describes the motivation of the inventors, Paul Würth and Henry Gray, to translate their idea into reality.
-‘Process’ describes 1. Melting of the minestones in the furnace and 2. The steel-forming.
-‘…Thinking’ sheds light on the consideration of marketing to the whole world in gloomy times.
-‘Welcome to New York’: The Gray Carriers are being sold overseas.
-In front of the One World Trade Center (1WTC): This building contains Luxembourg-made girders. (Steel beams from Differdingen, also called the ‘Differdinger’).
